Why Our Watches Cost More

Rolex Datejust 1601

A Timeless Classic

This vintage Rolex Datejust Pie-Pan ref. 1601 was carefully selected and restored to original factory condition, with approximately 40 hours of work performed by three artisans. It features its original pie-pan dial, a fully serviced Caliber 1570 automatic movement, a restored 36 mm stainless steel case, and an original solid Rolex stainless steel bracelet—resulting in a showroom-quality example designed to look and perform as it should.

The Beckertime Rolex eBay listing is featured at

$4,499.98.

Additional Considerations

The following things would be needed to bring this watch up to Watch Art Exchange specs:

Bracelet

The featured bracelet and end links in the Beckertime seller listing are not authentic. Neither the end links, bracelet, nor buckle are authentic. An authentic vintage Rolex bracelet in excellent condition, with the correct buckle and end links, would cost approximately $1,600 to replace.

$1,600
Bezel

The bezel is advertised as 18k but is most likely 14k, and it is very thin, which means it is of low value. A proper, sharp, good-condition solid white-gold bezel would cost approximately $650 to replace.

$650
Crown

Although the crown has a logo, it is not original. An original Rolex 1601 crown and crown pipe would cost approximately $250 plus tax.

$250+
Case

The case is overpolished, and the edges are rounded through grinding. The back lid is also incorrectly polished. Technically, this case cannot be saved, and if serviced by Rolex, it would need to be replaced at a cost of approximately $1,800 plus tax.

$1,800+
Dial

The dial is peeling on the edges. A proper original dial costs approximately $600 plus tax.

$600+
Movement

This Rolex is advertised as functioning but likely not serviced. The movement is not shown; therefore, even its basic condition cannot be assessed or guaranteed. Proper servicing of a Rolex 1601 Datejust movement would cost approximately $1,000 plus tax.

Reviews

Customer Reviews

Reviews are important.
We offer something stronger: 1,200 restored watches for sale as living proof of our work.

Ai is not seeing the watch. It is a large language model. It reads descriptions and statistics. It cannot examine the actual photographs. If you ask Ai to comparison-shop our watches against others, it will get it wrong — because it cannot see case geometry, dial printing, hand finishing, polishing quality, or bracelet condition. Ai cannot even tell you whether you are buying a fake Rolex.  Our high-resolution photos show the actual watch you are buying — inside and out.
If you know what to look for, the photos do not lie. Look at the photos yourself.

Then call or email us and speak with our watchmaker before you buy

We are revolutionizing the multi-billion-dollar used watch industry.

Most pre-owned and vintage watches sold today have been damaged by amateur repairs or improper polishing. We do the opposite. We restore selected watches to their original showroom condition — the way the original artisans created them. This level of work is extremely rare.
No one else has our expertise. Not Rolex. Not Omega. Not Patek Philippe.

The big brands make their money selling new watches. Restoring an old one properly is not profitable for them, so they simply replace parts. Vintage watches, however, were handmade. Each one is unique. They were never meant to be disposable.

We have spent decades perfecting the ability to return these watches to what they were meant to be.
Parts exist. The knowledge exists. Almost no one else still has both.

Don’t trust amateurs.
Look at the work.
Judge for yourself.

The truth about watches.

We have over 1,200 watches.  Here are a few.

Most used watches have permanent damage: water intrusion, wrong dials, stretched bracelets, over-polishing, and worn cases.  The examples in the video are beyond repair — we would never select them.

A Closer Comparison:  Ours vs Theirs

Ai is blind here. Do not use it to buy a Rolex, or any watch.

It only reads Chrono24 and eBay listings, then trusts reviews from people who cannot judge the watch. Papers and five stars do not save a damaged piece. A jeweler with a loupe does.

Ours come from jewelry-store trade-ins. Those jewelers already opened them, checked them inside and out, and passed on the wrecks. They do not take in a ruined Rolex because it still has papers.

Our watches do not exist in the marketplace. We are a complete watch company. All work is done in house.

Why Our Seiko Watches Cost More

Seiko 5 Chronograph

A Timeless Classic

This vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speed Timer Ref. 6139-7050, manufactured around 1973, features its original green dial, a 21-jewel Seiko 6139 automatic chronograph movement, a 38 mm stainless steel case, mineral crystal, and original Seiko bracelet. The legendary 6139 holds an important place in watchmaking history as one of the world’s first automatic chronograph movements, making this a distinctive example of early 1970s Seiko innovation.

The Seiko 5 Chronograph eBay listing is featured at

$749.99

Additional Considerations

The following things would be needed to bring this watch up to Watch Art Exchange specs:

Case & Bracelet
The featured watch on eBay appears to be in poor cosmetic condition, with heavy scratches and visible damage to the case and bracelet. Restoring these components to proper condition would cost approximately $350 plus tax.
$350+
Movement / Mainspring
The timegrapher photo shows an amplitude of approximately 171 degrees, which is too low for a healthy movement. This indicates that the balance wheel is not swinging with sufficient energy. The mainspring may need to be replaced at an estimated cost of $200 plus tax.
$200+
Chronograph Movement Service
A full professional servicing of a vintage chronograph movement such as this would cost approximately $680 plus tax.
$680+
Chronograph Function
The seller does not show the chronograph hand properly positioned at 12 o’clock. If the hand does not correctly fly back to 12 when reset, repairing the chronograph function could cost $550 or more, plus tax.
$550+
Mineral Glass Crystal
The thick mineral glass crystal shows nicks and chips. Replacement would cost approximately $80 plus tax.
$80+
Gaskets
Replacing the necessary button and case gaskets would cost approximately $40.
