Yes I have a confession to make.
If you have been reading along, you are probably asking yourself, why is he writing this stuff.
The simple answer is that my 90 year old mother told me that I had a “panza,” Italian, for a belly!
Yes, I like you, am not on top of my game and could lose a couple of pounds.
I believe we run astray because of underlying disease processes and lack of education on how to deal with our aging bodies.
I believe corporations have been fooling us for profit or maybe unwittingly with unhealthy food that did not exist 10,000 years ago and our bodies were never made to eat. The produce section seems to be getting smaller and smaller in every supermarket. Many stores no longer have a butcher shop.
Through clever processing and preservatives we have moved away from wholesome food of 50 years ago to completely unhealthy food. It’s all around us. Restaurant food for the most part is not healthy. Even getting onto a plane is dangerous, not from crashes, but from the food.
We have a lot of smart people in academia. Where were they when this silent food revolution was going on. Modern food is now so pervasive, that we cannot conduct studies any more comparing one diet against another. Fast food is everywhere as are the many “nuclear foods” with a shelf life of years. Ever walk down the candy isle, it’s lethal.
I have decided that I would use my past knowledge and my current experience working with you, in real time, to get into shape. Let’s get younger together!
This is how doctors take care of you when you go to the hospital. The doctor examines you and comes up with a diagnosis and treatment plan. This is written in the chart for all to see. Everyone reads the previous notes and line of thinking. We obtain laboratories to confirm our diagnosis. The whole process is very dynamic. We go from general impressions to very specific treatment with everyone pitching in with their expertise. This is why it’s called the “art of medicine.” Just like there are no guarantees in life, medicine is not perfect. We are constantly monitoring and adjusting our treatment to get the patient better.
At the end of the day, it’s not the doctor that cures the patient. The doctor is very limited. The best the doctor can hope for is that he has made the correct diagnosis and instituted the best treatment. At the end of the day, the doctor removes the disease that is keeping you from naturally getting better. In the end, it’s your body that heals itself.
If cancer is in the way of you getting better, then we remove the cancer. If there is a blockage to your artery, then we remove the blockage.
Getting you and me into shape is the same.
I offer you common sense knowledge and techniques to remove obstacles that are keeping you and me from being in great shape. Once you follow the common sense advice, then your body will naturally heal itself and get you back on your life curve of 100 years.
Speaking of writing things down, it’s important. Writing is probably the greatest invention of humanity. The power to suspend thought on a canvas is simply amazing. The human brain thinks linearly. People talk about multitasking, but it’s actually impossible. You can only think of one thing at a time. Multitasking is simply thinking about many things, a little bit one at a time.
Imagine if your surgeon was multitasking, he might forget something inside you!
Speaking of writing, why don’t you write! Yes I mean it. When you’re gone, you’re gone.
Write to your friends and family. There is nothing like a letter or a card. Emails are not the same. Emails are evanescent.
Send your wife, your daughter or your friend, a letter or a card. They will cherish it forever.
Time is precious. Remember, no regrets.
Love you mom!
