Seiko 5 Chronograph
A Timeless Classic
This vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speed Timer Ref. 6139-7050, manufactured around 1973, features its original green dial, a 21-jewel Seiko 6139 automatic chronograph movement, a 38 mm stainless steel case, mineral crystal, and original Seiko bracelet. The legendary 6139 holds an important place in watchmaking history as one of the world’s first automatic chronograph movements, making this a distinctive example of early 1970s Seiko innovation.

Additional Considerations
The following things would be needed to bring this watch up to Watch Art Exchange specs:
Case & Bracelet | The featured watch on eBay appears to be in poor cosmetic condition, with heavy scratches and visible damage to the case and bracelet. Restoring these components to proper condition would cost approximately $350 plus tax. | $350+ |
Movement / Mainspring | The timegrapher photo shows an amplitude of approximately 171 degrees, which is too low for a healthy movement. This indicates that the balance wheel is not swinging with sufficient energy. The mainspring may need to be replaced at an estimated cost of $200 plus tax. | $200+ |
Chronograph Movement Service | A full professional servicing of a vintage chronograph movement such as this would cost approximately $680 plus tax. | $680+ |
Chronograph Function | The seller does not show the chronograph hand properly positioned at 12 o’clock. If the hand does not correctly fly back to 12 when reset, repairing the chronograph function could cost $500 to $1000, plus tax. | $550+ |
Mineral Glass Crystal | The thick mineral glass crystal shows nicks and chips. Replacement would cost approximately $80 plus tax. | $80+ |
Gaskets | Replacing the necessary button and case gaskets would cost approximately $40. | $40 |
